The Dispatcher by Zachary Quinto Audiobook Review

Great story! I picked it up free and wasn't disappointed.

My Review:
I love short stories that grab my attention and are developed. In this story the reader is introduced to dispatchers. The story opens with a man who is in the hospital room as a serious operation is happening. The doctor openly wants him gone but he's there for liability. His job is to return the person if they die. As the story progresses it's full of twists and surprises.

I picked it up because it was free and the genre I enjoy. The author is fantastic. I'd read another of his books. The narrator Zachary Quinto did an awesome performance.

The suspense and curiosity plotted in this story along with great character development make this is story I reccomend to anyone who enjoys a good thriller or mystery!

The White Aura by Felicia Tatum Audiobook Review

Original and Intriguing

My Review:
The White Aura is a young adult fantasy that's appropriate for teens. All the elements to make it an entertaining read were present. The main character is kinda a normal teen excepr she has dreams, vivid dreams about a really hot guy. The hot dream guy is real but can't let her know he exists until she reaches a certain age. He's a sorcerer. In the story various sorcerers are known to each other by their aura.

The story is fast paced and easy to listen to. The characters were believable and there was an element of suspense. The only thing that made me smash my eyebrows was the Crimson Calamari. The CC is an evil sorcerer whose super strong. I didn't get the name. The red squid? I chuckle at the name rather than accept him as a bad guy. I think his nickname could be stronger but it was a really fun story anyways.

Evienne Zander's performance and pace was good. The story ends but leaves the door wide open for a sequel so I'll be watching for it.

The Masterpiecers by Olivia Wildenstein Audiobook Review

I finished this book a week ago but have been slow at getting a review written. It's a great book just busy.

My Review:
Sisters Ivy and Aster are caught in the middle of a scheme. Aster's in prison for murder and Ivy's on her way to join the hit show Masterpiecers. A show where artists complete for money through a series of activities displaying their skills. That doesn't sound all that exciting but intrigue is carefully woven into the story creating a great story.

The story flips between Aster and Ivy developing their characters. and the plot. At first the connection isn't evident whether on purpose or not but there was enough suspense to keep me listening. Narrator Catherine Wenglowski did a good job with her performance and I enjoyed the story.

For anyone who enjoys a good mystery then check this one out.

The thrilling conclusion is filled with suspense!

The cold air chilling her to the bone, she walked swiftly towards her apartment. Her mind cloudy from too many beers. A trail
through the woods surrounding her apartment complex opened up to her left. If she stayed the course of the street-lit sidewalk, it’d take her longer to get home than if she took the path through the woods that led almost directly to her door. Her body shivering, she decided to take the chance and cut through the woods. Really, it was just a small chunk of trees with a well-worn path that most people used for walking their dogs.

Halfway through the shortcut, she heard voices talking. She slowed her pace and listened but assumed it was a couple walking their dog.

“What the hell are you doing?!” yelled a male voice.

She jumped and on instinct plastered herself against a large tree and scanned the area. Hoping she was fully camouflaged by the thick trunk. She peeked her head around it and spotted two young men. One had jeans sagging past his buttocks and a red jacket. The other wore all black and he held a glinting silver object. Her mind flashed back to the shining object and black eyes that chased her within her nightmares. She breathed deeply, trying to stay calm, and considered her options. The last time she’d run through woods didn’t fare well for her and she ended up in a coma for a week.
Running was out of the question. Going forward was out of the question. She felt the cool metal of the pendant against her chest and remembered its soothing qualities. Taking a deep breath, she
crouched, using the trees for cover and squat-walked towards the next tree. She couldn’t avoid the piles of leaves littering the ground, but hoped her steps were gentle enough the guys would consider them an animal.

The voices moved closer to her and she went into near panic mode. Breathe, breathe. They’re probably just smoking pot and mean no harm, she soothed herself, but the feeling in her gut sent shivers of horror flying through her body. Bad memories resurfaced and she saw his face, the monster, Evan’s face. She closed her eyes, attempting to gather her courage.
Leaves rustled beneath their pounding footsteps, growing closer with each one. No longer able to control her fear, she took her chances and ran.

“Who’s there?” called one of the men, as Eilida sprinted through the woods. Not watching where she was going, she ran smack into broad shoulders and a rock hard abdomen. Waves of horror shuddered throughout her body.

Listen to the In the Midst of the Storm Soundtrack!

It's sexy!

He wanted to make all the bad in her life disappear and he wanted her. The vibes bouncing off Eilida suggested she desired him just as much. Setting his plate on the table, he turned to face her and cupped her face in his hand. Then he brought his lips to hers. His
sexual hunger matched by hers.

When they released the kiss, she set her plate beside his and brought her body closer to his, melting in his arms. Their mouths met again as their hands explored the other’s assets. His hand lingering on her perky breasts as he lifted her shirt and drew his tongue closer to them for a taste.

Hurricane Matthew

For nearly two decades I've lived in Florida, in an area naturally protected from large storms. Matthew was an anomaly. Where I live was projected to get the strongest bands of wind surrounding the eye wall.

This doesn't mean we aren't affected by hurricanes. Matthew makes five for me. As the storm hits land we aren't directly hit but feel the outer bands and the winds strength with gusts over 100 mph. Tropical disturbances are an everyday part of life, summer to fall in Florida and life goes on.

The Gulf Stream and shape of Florida protect North Florida from direct hits. Matthew was projected to hit Jacksonville but instead choose Flagler Beach and St. Augustine. Most of the storm stayed in the water but heavy bands swung around and pounded the northern coast.

As we sat inside our house the trees swayed from the winds and the rain poured at a slant. Branches were ripped from trees and deposited in the driveway. We watched the news from time to time and I was distraught over the damage to the Northern coast.

The coastal road was washed out in Flagler Beach and St. Augustine looked like a lake. The areas I've driven on, restaurants I've eaten at, not destroyed, but almost unrecognizable. Overall, the damage was minimal.

As Matthew barreled through he weakened to a category 2 as he moved into Jacksonville and took a wobble to the east. That wobble and downgrade kept the heaviest winds off the coast. Late into the evening and throughout the night they continued to blow and by this morning the storm disappeared for us.

We had sustained winds of 50 plus miles per hour and gusts much stronger. Our electricity blinked out several times but came back on within minutes. Our wifi dropped a few times but came back up right away. We were prepared for loss of electricity and minor damage yet we have none.

I'd say we got lucky but don't at all think it was luck that saved us. It was divine intervention from friends and family throughout in the U.S. and all over the world. Thank you for your prayers.

Whispered Pain by Ashley Fontainne Audiobook Review

Not my favorite but OK. I was a little disappointed as I love psychological thrillers and this one didn't deliver. Normally I wouldn't even post this here but I listened to another of the author's stories and loved it so I'm giving her a little credit.

My Review:

I bought Whispered Pain because I’d read another of Ashley Fontainne’s stories. I was disappointed. It’s a decent short story that was entertaining during a long car ride but didn’t grab me. The story is kind of original but lacking and plot holes. The main character is pregnant. She’s goes into labor during a wicked snow storm and her hubbie packs her up and heads to the hospital but the roads are bad and they’re arguing over the phone and end up wrecking.

She wakes up from her coma in the hospital and everything starts to fall into place as she hatches a plan. In my opinion it’s the characters drop into permanent madness. I saw her as a creep and felt far more sorry for her husband. There’s a nice little twist at the end that salvaged the story a little.

The narrator, Andrea Emmes, did a decent job and gave the story a little extra umph that it was lacking.

Moonburner by Claire Luana Audiobook Review

Nothing about it I didn't love!

Review:
Awesome story! Kai is born into a society where girls who are Moonburners are killed at birth by the king of the Sunburners. Her parent’s manage to hide her out by pretending she’s a boy. That lasts until she’s 17 then it’s discovered she’s a Moonburner and her family is sentenced. Kai’s sent to the desert where she wanders one step away from death. While there her magical animal finds her. These animals are only for people of great power and importance which is discovered later in the story.

I loved the animals attached to the burners. It’s a nice touch. The story has an easy flow and even though I’d figured it out within the first few chapters I continued listening. I don’t usually do that but this story drew me in even though I wasn’t surprised by its events. That’s a huge plus for me.

The narrator Emma Lysy’s performance is excellent and fitting to the story and Kai’s character. There wasn’t anything about this story I didn’t love.

White Raven by J.L. Weil

A fun young adult story.

Review:

I enjoyed this one. The main character is a normal teen girl with backbone, spunk and a smart mouth. She’s annoying yet annoying in a way that had me laughing. Her and her brother are sent to Raven Hollow, a blah island to spend the summer with a grandmother they’ve never met. She hates it! But it spices up quickly when she meets mysterious and oh so dreamy Zane and his gorgeous siblings.

Weird things start happening and she’s at the center of them. She’s also the center of the talk around town and clueless as to why. It isn’t long before she finds out and her relationship with Zane heat up!

Caitlyn Kelly does a fantastic job with the narration and even the accented voices of Zane’s family.

Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn Audiobook Review

If you enjoy a great young adult tale that is completely original you need to check this one out!

My Review:

Open Minds is an excellent read! The storyline is original and nicely written. In this society most people are Readers, meaning they read minds and talk through common consciousness. Those that can’t read are labeled Zero’s. Kira is a zero or at least she thinks so until she’s introduced to mind-jacking then a whole new world is opened up for her.

Along with reading and min-jacking Kira is also a regular teenage girl who has a massive crush on her best friend Raf. He’s a reader and since she’s a zero thinks he’s not interested in her other than friendship. When she meets Simon she falls hook, line and sinker but, even that gets complicated.

Something that really got me is how the author adds tastes and scents to people’s minds, very creative. I enjoyed Kelli Shane’s performance as much as I loved the story. I thought she was a perfect match. Great story all around!
