When life throws acidic lemonade in your eyes

The last couple weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. In good ways and bad.

Recently, I lost a good friend. Someone who always made me laugh, someone who had the best smile and was always herself. She was amazing and not a day goes by I don't think about her.

She was more than friend, almost a business partner. We spent countess hours brainstorming ideas. I've made it a mission to put as many of those ideas out there. I'm probably going overboard and doing too much at once to keep my mind occupied but one thing I learned from her was to do it, just do it. You have nothing to lose.

That's how she lived her life. She went overboard on what she loved and believed in. Sometimes it's difficult to take a chance but in the end its usually worth it.

Every business decision I make I'll always think what would she do? Would she approve? What would she suggest? I've been running my business for a few years now but won't make another decision without thinking about her first.

Currently, I've been working on a new series. It encompasses eight realms. She was the first person I told and we discussed for hours the possibilities. She really helped shape the story before I even started writing it. In her honor I will finish it with a dedication to her.

I'm thinking of designing a character around her. She'd get a kick out of that. Friends leave an impression on our hearts even after they are gone. They aren't forgotten and I'd like to make her immortal. The snarky teenager that does her thing. In essence that describes the main character in my work in progress but I think I can add another snarky teen.

One of the things she convinced me to do was start a Patreon. I kind of knew what Patreon was but she had me create an account and had me check out various creators. We even discussed ideas but nothing quite meshed until about a week and a half ago.

I had this epiphany as I was driving home. First, a chapter came to me. Popped into my head from nowhere. I don't really think it came from nowhere. I'm pretty convinced it was her because immediately following the story idea was using it to design a Patreon around.

Reading and books were a huge part of her world and she adored exclusive stuff from authors; books, swag, anything that couldn't be found anywhere else. That was it!

In honor of her and cool exclusive author stuff, the main idea behind my Patreon is to create exclusive stories that can't be found in stores, only Patrons have access to them. To make that even better Patrons get to decide where the story goes. The goal is once each story is done to have a special made book only for Patrons.

Not only would she have approved but without a doubt she was talking in my head. I invite readers anywhere, everywhere to subscribe. I promise fun, unique stuff and interactive stories!

I really can't wait to get my first Patron. Readers are a hoot and I need that in my life. Go ahead and click the link.

Age/Sex/Location by Denise Kawaii

I have started on my 2015 reading list. A couple months ago I got this book as a prize during a giveaway event with Double Decker Books. I got an autographed copy! Yipee!

My review:

Age/Sex/Location Love is Just a Click Away took me by surprise. The story centers around Jo a new adult who doesn’t have the best parental relationship. She left home young and is independent. Her fiancĂ© breaks the engagement on her birthday. What a jerk! Well, she was better without that loser. She falls into a feel-sorry-for-herself slump, makes bad decisions, and turns to drugs and alcohol. In the midst of her downward spiral she starts talking to Nayman2000 over the course of several months they become friends and her dismal life seems to brighten.

This was the first of Denise Kawaii’s books I’ve read. In fact, I won an autographed copy. It was the first paperback I’ve read in months and being autographed I carefully turned each page not to damage the precious book. At times that was difficult because I got so into the story. I couldn’t wait to get home from work and read more. The story is a romance, but not in the everything is rosy and bright sense. Jo has a lot of obstacles to overcome; the first I would say is self esteem. The book held a lot of truths that plague us. My heart went out to Jo while at the same time I kept thinking,’What are you doing?’. She isn’t a perfect character, but flawed and marred by humanity, giving her a realistic and loveable quality.
