Most children who go missing or run away don't turn up. They are trafficked, murdered, and/or abused in some other inhumane form. According to http://www.cwfa.org/images/content/factsheet.pdf 600,000 - 800,000 men, women, and children are trafficked globally in 2005. Imagine those numbers now? The fact sheet contains more disturbing statistics and realities.
Cleo's journey as a street girl begins when her mother goes missing and she has no family to turn to. Many readers have told me they shed tears for Cleo. That no matter what she did they rooted for her. Cleo isn't an angel. She is a survivor. As I wrote the book I considered the many options the story could take. Did I want her trafficked? Or a drug mule? I couldn't do that to her. So as heartbreaking as her story is it could have been far more.
At the end of her journey I placed all the books into a Box Set so now they can be available in paperback. When I received the shipment of them the other day, I cried. Cleo's become a huge part of my life.
