This is a great series; witches, fae, elves, and doors to other worlds!
My opinion: Anissa the girl with the big heart takes a turn in this segment. She's far more than she ever considered herself and with more power she is the strongest of the group and takes the leadership role. To her it's new but not to those of us who have read the other books. What I really enjoyed about this book was how the other realms fit in. It was about acceptance and understanding how different yet how similar we are. I relay this to the world we live in. There are many countries filled with people but truly we aren't much different except customs and languages. I heard that message loud and clear and thought the author did a nice job of relaying the positive.
The narrator again is fabulous, great pacing and a clear voice. I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves YA paranormal. It's clean yet there is the whole romance between each pair in the group. The main focus is Anissa and Chase. Amazon/Audible
This is a fantastic series if you anjoy witches and paranormal. The series is well put together, each book they have a new challenge yet there's a deep overarching plot that brings the stories together and keeps me reading. Each new book is another piece to the journey the six are taking and is filled with growing pains making the plot so real.
In this book Anissa is touched by darkness. This goes against everyting Anissa is, caring, compassionate and kind. The darkness drives her into doing things very out of character and compulsive but that's only half the battle as a wedge is driven between her and soulmate Chase. The six have to rid the darkness before it takes its toll on helpless humans.
I normally don't always like a new narrator in a series but Molly Merseal does it seemlessly and keeps good pacing with the plot and characters. Definitely one to check out!
Soul Redemption is book two in the Soul Series. Its a journey into another world, one of witches with incredible power.
My Review: Two new students come to town, making trouble from the start. It doesn't take the guardians long to figure out they are witches with bad intentions. In this second book Anisa and the others are learning more about using their powers, their special gifts and how they draw on the power of the Origin. What I love best about this series is the author's creativity. She builds a world that is completely believable and doesn't leave anything out. All details are described as the reader moves into unknown territory. The characters even with all their power are teenagers, regular teenagers. They go through the emotions, insecurites and such as they figure everything out and solve problems. They trust and rely on their parents guidance as they meander through learning to be witches with an important job. They are extremely powerful witches who have to work together to help and protect humanity and other witches. It's also a romance. Anisa has Chase and Penelope and Lamdon have each other - soul mates. The author keeps it PG13 for young readers. I love young adult books but some authors have problems with the boundary between what's acceptable for young adults and what's not. Miranda Shanklin does it well.
Kudos to Mae Ruling as well. She did well with the first book but now in the second book she nailed it. This is a fantastic series for anyone who loves paranormal and witches or who just wants a sweet romance. Amazon/Audible
After the last couple books I listened to that you find on my blog this book fit the bill! It is wonderful. My Review: This book was refreshing. I love a great YA story and this one was just right for my mood. Rowen is a witch from a line of witches and pretty much a normal wall flower type kid. She has her best friend and would rather a night at home than a football game. When she starts dating a popular football jock that starts to change and she finds herself having fun doing activities she never would have done.
There's layers to this story and not as simple as my previous paragraph. Rowen's been having nightmares and strange visions which grow in the presence of Hunter (hunky jock boyfriend). Once they figure it out the plot thickens. The characters are fun, believable and three dimensional. The plot grows steady with plenty of surprises and twists.
To make this story even creepier it takes place and is loosely based on Sleepy Hollow and its past. That's all explained at the end. Overall, a fabulous story that I'm positive I'll listen to again. Amazon/Audible
The sequel to The Vampires Next Door is almost here. Release date set for March 7th. This series is home to me. The only series I have currently placed in a setting close to my home -- St. Augustine Florida. In similar fashion there are places of interest noted in The Monster Upstairs. These places exist. In this book the Slayers find themselves not beneath St. Augustine but Jacksonville, sister city to St. Augustine.

These underground tunnels really exist and some are open to tours. The transportation tunnels here made for a nasty adventure for Alison and the acquaintance of a new creature -- Alistair the Boghart, Excerpt:
She found the voice. It was attached to an odd looking
creature with wild brown hair, a large nose, and round cheeks peering at her
with two outstretched hands from a hole in the bricks no more than a foot or so
above her head. Another set off blades hit the ground and she jumped, reaching
for the creature’s hands. He grasped them and pulled her upward while she
planted her feet along the wall and climbed it.
“’Bout time. Follow me,” he said as he crawled through the
small space. It was large enough for him to crawl, as he was no larger than a
four-year-old child. She felt like a giant and had to wriggle on her belly, her
ribs throbbing with each movement, and the dampness soaking through her shirt and
jeans. She was glad she wore old clothes and running shoes for her little
venture. The gunk coating the crawl space oozed through her fingers as she
clutched between the bricks to get to the other side.
What's happening?
demanded Rodham.
It was a booby trap.
I'm OK.
The creature jumped out of the space and grabbed her hands,
pulling her out. She was impressed with his strength as she tumbled out of the
tunnel onto her butt and the gunky ground of yet another tunnel. He was no more
than half her height and she wasn't exactly tall at five foot three inches.
“Thank you,” she said, lifting her aching body off the
ground. She felt like an old woman and desired a long, hot bath filled with
bubbles and the scent of strawberry or vanilla, anything but the nasty odor
that coated every inch of her body and made her cringe.
“It's not every day I find a young lass traveling these
tunnels,” he muttered. “Or anyone...” he finished, his voice trailing off.
But those aren't the only tunnels used in the book. There are also tunnels beneath Jacksonville that contain bank vaults. They're still used today for tours and businesses.
And in St. Augustine style there is a battle in one of the existing forts. A small fort called Fort Matanzas.
The picture purchased as the fort is closed due to damage from Hurricane Matthew.
The background on the book cover also contains a draw bridge from one of the forts.
My Review: Anissa is a high school student, cheerleader, dating a hot football player, everything's good. Her parents' force her, more or less, to meet the new neighbors. Immediately she's attracted to Chase and feels a closeness to his sister Penelope. Everything in her life gets a little strange after that. This is the first book by Miranda Shanklin I've read or listened too and I really enjoyed it. She builds believable characters who aren't perfect yet are strong enough to face adversity. I read a lot of YA fantasish books and the plot and concept are one of a kind. The story ends with a nice segway into the next book in the series without leaving it at a dreaded cliffhanger. A fun read with great pacing! Amazon/Audible
This was a really fun story. I'd say it's more of an NA mystery/ paranormal.
My Review: Lily is an only child of a single mother. After years of hard work her mother is able to buy an ice cream shop. Lily goes to college but remains at home helping to run the ice cream shop. Strange things start to happen as Lily has extra vivid dreams. There far too much going on in the story to write it into this review but what got me was the intrigue. The author brings out the suspense with each event and character. There’s far more going on than meets the eye with suspicious characters such as Lily’s disappearing aunts, questionable police officer and ex-boyfriend just to name a few. The story kept me guessing and was a quick read. I'm going to add I adore the cover! Amazon
