Blurb:

When William D. Shaw seeks out acclaimed author, Elizabeth, to write her biography, the recluse grants him twenty-four hours to hear her story. What unfolds is a macabre memoir that teeters on the edge of a psychological thriller.

Together, they descend into the bowels of Elizabeth's psyche and examine the trauma victim's past filled with neglect, rape, abuse, torture, and pedophilia. There, Shaw witnesses the results of a human being who has lived her entire life without love, comfort, safety, security, affection, physical contact, family, therapy, or
medication.

As Shaw tries to understand Elizabeth’s decision to embrace loneliness and isolation, he witnesses Elizabeth’s multiple mental conditions that send her spiraling into the worlds of her psyche, all while toggling the lines of insanity.

From the Author

On 7 March 2015 I was asked, “Who am I?” The question led me to write an article that barely scratched the surface to the question. It wasn’t enough. I needed to write and so, that afternoon, I began “Broken.”
I wrote about the animals I watched die from mutilation when I was eight years old. I wrote about the torture I witnessed then experienced as I fought every day to save the animals from their abuser. I wrote about how I had to choose between animal abuse and rape. I recalled my desperate need of approval and deep seeded fear of rejection that led me to sexual torture and rape then into the arms of a pedophile who used my own fears against me. I wrote about how these events snowballed to 9/11 when I was raped only minutes after listening to the towers fall.
The memories and nightmares followed me into motherhood years after the abuse had ended, but my battles were far from over. I would go on to relive the twenty years of mental war I survived for another fifteen years. Until Broken, I was oblivious to my mental
scars.
In two weeks, I wrote 96,000 words. Within that time, I relived thirty five years of trauma and when I finished, I finally could see how completely broken I was. I started “Broken” as a trauma victim in denial, and finished it as a trauma survivor finally aware of her plight.
Broken shows what trauma looks like on the inside. It shows how distorted the world looks to a trauma survivor. Broken is my story and shows how I arrived at awareness to begin my road to healing.
