The search continues...

I continue researching St. Augustine for my Vampire novel. I'm already half way through the story and loving the twists and surprises my characters throw at me. But the research is what gives the story authenticity.

I haven't yet found the "Vampire" article, but I found something else with far more credibility. St. Augustine is over 450 years old, and holds secrets within its bowels. Those secrets are being dug to the surface.

Geologically, Earth changes daily, overtime those changes are significant. This made me wonder, what is beneath St. Augustine? It sits approximately 2 feet above sea level according to this First Coast News Article

More interesting is what an Archaeologist at Flagler College in St. Augustine has found beneath the city. He's found subdivisions, skeletons, and clay pots, just for starters. Read more here.

The article spurred my reader's imagination and started the beginning of my story which will encompass an entire 3-6 book series.

Vampires are ancient creatures of the dark. Everybody knows that. My Vampires originated in Spain, how they got to America is a secret, even to me. I suspect my characters won't display that until the final book.

The main characters in my story aren't Vampires but a group who seek and kill them. And my Vampires aren't called Vampires, they have a much gorier name.

In the prologue the reader is introduced to a single event in St. Augustine that sends an entire house plummeting beneath the surface, burying hundreds of Vampires. As of recently it's been dug up, releasing these bloodsucking beasts.

An ancient faction of Vampire killers are spurred into action. They are not the originals as they are mortal humans but decedents of the originals who have no choice but to accept their destiny. The last group wiped the surface of Earth of every bloodsucking beast.

The beasts now released are out for blood and this young generation of killers has to destroy them and find each other. They're are seven Vampire killers and together they have unstoppable  power, individually they have a gift that allows them an edge over the Vampires.

As a science nerd, there is a bit of science, involving radiation and light waves from the sun.

The combination of history and science is making this story the most enjoyable one to write yet. It won't be released until after the first of the year, most likely February or March.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Saying Goodnight...

The darkness creeps upon me each night while I tap away at my keyboard. My characters devise schemes and carry out action whilst I am the teller of their lives.

When I shut down my computer for the night pangs of guilt and desire shoot through me like venom. As I rest my eyes to sleep they talk and babble in my head continuing to play out the scene where I left them.

In the morning my deepest desire is to open my computer and type out all they did through the night. Their words and actions linger in my mind as I drive to work. They are relentless. I pull into the parking lot at work, no desire to cut off my engine. Instead I wish to drive to Starbucks sip on a coffee, eat an everything bagel smothered in cream cheese and continue their plight. Still sitting in my car I turn the engine off against my will and start my day knowing I will be with them again soon but not long enough.

The cycle repeats until Saturday or vacation arrives then I'm all theirs!

New footage from Baby Girl Book 1 In the Beginning

A Close Call

Over the following months we bounced from one city to the next, blurring my memory. We changed our appearances by wearing layered clothing and hats that could be pulled off on the run. We stayed in cities long enough to pull off heists and make money than disappeared. We kept a low profile, ghost people, slipping in and out unnoticed.
I took the time to keep up with our crime sprees through the newspaper. The police were clueless and never linked the crimes together. Under the small crimes section in small print is where I found most our thefts listed with one exception- The judge’s house.
We got cocky and chose a house in a ritzy gated community belonging to a judge. Einstein posed as a landscaper replacement from a job agency with the usual crew and did inside surveillance. Once inside he staked out the judge’s property and found a small gap at the bottom of the fence big enough for us to squeeze underneath without getting scratched. After we squeezed under the gap we traipsed through the woods surrounding the inside of the gate, which backed up to his property. Einstein did his usual security system magic by cutting the outside wires and we were in.
The judge’s house was full of valuables; diamond earrings, gold necklaces adorned with amethyst, rubies, emeralds, and onyx. We took small stuff that fit in our back packs to be carried out and pawned without drawing attention.
While in the judge’s office I dug through his desk drawers and found a bundle of cash then the sirens began wailing in the distance, forcing a shot of panic in my belly. I stuffed the letter opener and cash into the bag. Einstein and I high-tailed it out of the house. The sirens howled behind us as we cut back through the woods and slid under the gate on our backs. I breathed a sigh of relief.
“That was too close.”
Einstein took my hand, helping me to my feet. “No kidding.” We slunk back to our temporary home and dumped our packs.
The wad of cash, jewelry, and letter opener rolled out of my back pack hitting the cement floor.
“Holy cow Cleo!” Einstein grabbed the letter opener and twisted it in his hand holding it up to the light. “Look at the engraving. We can’t sell this it belonged to a famous eighteenth century author.”
I lowered the wad of cash I had in my hand. “I… it was in my hand when I heard the sirens.”
“It’s solid gold. We’ll take care of it later.” He looked at the huge bundle of cash. “You want help counting?”
“Sure.” I handed him half the bundle, and he stole a kiss on my lips.
The grand total of our loot for the day amounted to $5,000 in cash, five new gold chains adorning various gemstones, diamond earrings, a silver place setting, brass candleholders, and a gold letter opener engraved with an eighteenth century authors name.
The judge offered a reward for the return of the letter opener. We thought of various scenarios in which to collect the reward, but any of them would have led to police involvement. Chimes went off inside my head and I came up with a brilliant plan.

We wiped the letter opener clean, even though we always wore gloves, and found a drunk homeless man passed out in an alley, derelicts littered the shabbier parts of cities. I pressed the letter opener against his finger tips and left it under his hand while Einstein used a pay phone to call it in anonymously. A tall apartment building stood kitty corner to where the derelict man lay. We chose that building to meet back up and watched the scene from the fourth floor landing. The judge was grateful to have his letter opener back, and we took deep breaths that we pulled off framing the innocent homeless man.

Matthew Cox- Division Zero a mind- blowing sci-fi novel that will leave you craving more

My latest reading conquest is Division Zero by Matthew Cox, published through Curiosity Quills. I am a sucker for a good read especially those out of the realm of "normal". Matthew Cox creates an alternate world in this full on action novel. Below is my review.

Division Zero by Matthew Cox is a nonstop action novel based centuries into the future, and not out of the realm of possibility. Kirsten is a Division Zero, those with psionic talents, police officer chasing down a supernatural force that is embodying dolls, and wreaking havoc. Among her psionic talents Kirsten is able to see and communicate with ghosts, mind blast her enemies into temporary paralysis, and use telepathy to speak into the brains of others. Her patrol vehicle is a bit quirky and comes with an added bonus, and partner Dorian.

Matthew Cox paints a vivid futuristic world with his use of details beckoning the reader to continue. Money comes in the form of credit sticks, cars have the ability to hover, and auto correct, and stimpacks with the aid of nanobots heal wounds almost immediately. Everyone carries a netmini, a small device with many functions from communication to nav guide. Food is no longer grown on a farm or caught in the sea, but a variation of omnisoy and animals produced for consumption. Androids, or dolls are found perusing within every level of society, and come in varying forms from newer lifelike models to older robotic like models. In this futuristic, fantasy world the dolls have some level of rights not quite equivalent to humans. This author's creativity is unmatched by few.

Division Zero takes the reader on a wild ride as protagonist Kirsten bounces from one heroic action packed stop to the next. From the beginning the reader is placed in the driver’s seat experiencing Kirsten's world as a psionic cop as she wrestles with a lingering evil ghost inhabiting a prewar building, endangering the lives of fellow police officers to the culminating end. Each new peril drives and thickens the plot.

A must read for all action, fantasy, and sci-fi fans!

Divison Zero Book Description

Most cops get to deal with living criminals, but Agent Kirsten

Wren
 is not most cops.

A gifted psionic with a troubled past, Kirsten possesses a rare combination of abilities that give her a powerful weapon against spirits. In 2418, rampant violence and corporate warfare have left no shortage of angry wraiths in West City. Most exist as little more than fleeting shadows and eerie whispers in the darkness.

Kirsten is shunned by a society that does not understand psionics, feared by those who know what she can do, and alone in a city of millions. Every so often, when a wraith gathers enough strength to become a threat to the living, these same people rely on her to stop it.

Unexplained killings by human-like androids known as dolls leave the Division One police baffled, causing them to punt the case to Division Zero. Kirsten, along with her partner Dorian, wind up in the crosshairs of corporate assassins as they attempt to find out who – or what – is behind the random murders before more people die.

She tries to hold on to the belief that no one is beyond redemption as she pursues a killer desperate to claim at least one more innocent soul – that might just be hers.

John Reinhard Dizon- A Phenomenal Author and Person

A couple months ago I published an interview and book review of Wolfman and Tiara authored by John Reinhard Dizon. He is not only a remarkable story teller but has been a great support to me as a newbie author. I have now read The Bat, Nightcrawler, and King of the Hoboes,
absolutely loved them all. Today I'm sharing some of my reviews and I heavily encourage all thetroubledoyster's viewers to take a peak at the review and check out the books; Amazon links available. Thank you John for all your support and assistance :-)

The Bat

The Bat (An Existential Fable) at Amazon, click
Murder, mayhem, and villains wreak havoc in New York, ripping it apart at the seams in this wild existential fable The Bat by John R. Dizon giving it a dystopian feel. The city is under extreme duress as gangs, drugs and vigilantes roam the streets rotting the core of the city. Law makers fight to reclaim order in New York all the while mass chaos overwhelms it with detonating force.

This novel has a Batman or Iron Man feel to it as an evil mastermind seeks to control and take over the city experimenting with a mind altering drug that had been created to assist vets until the military saw how it could make a super soldier. He uses everyone as his pawn constructing a complex turn of events. The more vile characters through their own vanity allow corruption to spread as a disease. The Bat may be the only person who can destroy the repugnant and overly confident narcissist.

The Bat is a tightly packed must read novel with a surprise ending left open for a sequel.

Nightcrawler

[ NIGHTCRAWLER (FIRST PRINTING) ] By Dizon, John Reinhard ( Author) 2014 [ Paperback ] At Amazon, click here

Nightcrawler by John R. Dizon is an exciting novel filled to the brim with action and intense fight scenes.Unlikely heroine Sabrina Brooks, alter ego the Nightcrawler, complete with ninja outfit and balaclava, takes to ridding the streets of evil using gas that stops the bad guys in their tracks without killing them.

Sabrina Brooks is the attractive, young heiress of Brooks Chemical Company. She first began college seeking a chemistry degree in order to follow in her father's footsteps but changed schools and directions when he mother passed, seeking a career in law enforcement that went awry when skipping classes and partying became more important than her studies. Finally, getting her head straight she decides to run the company. A terrorist organization calling themselves The Octagon, it's leader the Reaper, attempts to poison The Big Apple time and time again with dangerous chemicals only to be continually foiled or not by the Nightcrawler.

This novel is a unique piece of work with a superhero woman who can't bring herself to killing.

Like John R. Dizon's other novels the plot carries many twists and turns, the characters are rich in personality, and high in quality. Having now read four of John R. Dizon's novels he uses the right amount of description vs.plot and character formation to produce a novel that is difficult for the reader to put down, every suspenseful detail leads to the climax which he presents with a bang. His knowledge of New York gives an authentic touch making the story thoroughly believable.

Definitely a must read!

King of the Hoboes

King Of The Hoboes at Amazon, click here
John Reinhard Dizon outdid himself with King of the Hoboes. This novel takes reader into the Hobo underworld; a methodical, coordinated organization controlled by an evil Hobo Lord. Undercover police officer Roni has to learn to survive homeless on the streets in order to close the case and earn herself a much sought after promotion.

The author does a fantastic job setting the scene to the finest detail, and giving insight and character to each individual personality in the story. Roni is a hard nosed girl who relishes her independence and seeks a promotion as detective. Her partner and boyfriend Evan lives on the upper crust side of New York. They are used to their luxuries. Adolf Hyatt is the evil King of the Hobo underworld. He is intelligent, conniving, and philosophical, easily luring innocents into his web.

With genius and colorful words King of the Hoboes makes being homeless a reality. Roni, has to fight and think about where she is going to find food, where she can take a shower, how to clean her clothes, and where to sleep. This novel sends a powerful message to the reader.

King of the Hoboes is a thought provoking thrill ride!
