Something Wicked Comes This Way Giveaway!

It's the season for thrillers and horror. It's also the season for my latest release, Scarlett.

You can get Part 1 of Scarlett, The Purple Mask along with many other books here for free by entering the giveaway. Click here.

Scarlett is the first book in the Evan's Girls series spawned from the Ruthless Storm Trilogy. Scarlett is an egnimatic character introduced in Volume 2 and throughout Volume 3 its hard to decipher her motives. Her story reveals all.

She leads an interesting life. Read the blurb:

I was Evan O’Conner’s first victim. Nov. 5, 1954, at 7:01 p.m. I entered the world, unwanted and uncherished. My mother was raped at 15 by Evan’s grandfather. Distraught and full of hate. A hate I now understand. She gave me up and I spent my tender years in foster care.

At age 17, I met my biological sister, Philmonia, born from the same father. Young and naïve I thought I’d finally found family. She was married to a wealthy man, Evan O’Conner Sr. They promised me a fairy tale life. I swooned and fell into their trap. My princess life was stopped short and became my prison.

They perpetrated unspeakable crimes against me. The worst was inseminating me with the sperm that gave life to a monster that grew inside me. I tried to abort the fetus but he clung to my uterus like a leech. The demonic seed grew and grew inside my womb for nine months. The monster’s fingers clawed against my insides. His feet kicked against my bladder and his soul ate at my heart, turning it black with hate. The little demon ball of cells clung inside me, refusing my wishes until he was ready. He was in control even then. My hate deepened each day for the devil inside me.

A child created by lust and scientific experimentation developed into a monster so cruel, so vile he’ll never be forgotten.

When my contractions started I pushed with everything I had to force him out of me. Finally I shed the little beast. My sister and her husband took the screaming, bald creature and held him with amazement while I shivered in relief. The little beast became the most renowned serial killer in history – The Hurricane Killer.

My name is Scarlett Jones and this is my story.

That's only a brief description. Scarlett is a deep person with talents and secrets she only reveals in her story.

I have to thank the fans and readers of the Ruthless Storm Trilogy for their insistance in writing these girls stories because they need to be heard.

It isn't necessary to read the trilogy first before starting the new series but you may want to.

My Tampa Audiobook Deals

The night before I left for my road trip to Tampa I bought a few audiobooks knowing I needed some entertainment for the drive. The following are what I found and the prices. All are whispersync deals.

I was craving gothic horror and ghosts and these all fit the bill, although, I don't recommend listening while driving through the boonies such as I did unless you really enjoy fear.

Wicker's Bog by Mike Duran

Blurb:
Every autumn, when the weather turned and the wind came off the marsh, the dark waters of Wickers Bog gave up its ghosts and reawakened the old yarns.

Julene Ella Haddan is about to be drawn into one of them.

It was a grey, joyless day, when young Julene heard the song of the siren and followed its melody into the enchanted swamp... a journey which led her into a tale of murder and deceit. It's only the fated who hear the siren. Yet Julene's fate now seems bound to the fabled Lady of Lisenby, the spectral gatekeeper of the Bog, queen of the haunted deep. However, is it justice the Lady seeks or is Julene the siren's next victim?

Myth and mystery collide in this tale of Southern Gothic horror.

Kindle was .99 and I upgraded to audio for another 1.99

Angela by Adam M. Booth

Blurb:
"I left her when she was eight. Just a child. Too young to be alone. I killed myself because I could never atone for the things He made me do. There is something wrong with my family, you see. A fear runs through us, through our blood. A fear that circles above us, shredding the sky and clawing at our hearts, and now, from a deathless realm, I am forced to watch as my lonely daughter is tortured by the life I gave her to endure. No father should see the things I've seen, but then no father should do the things I did.

Forgive me Angela."

ANGELA, a bleak and unflinching tale in which we meet a lonely, middle aged woman who must live with the legacy of her family's dark secret, the madness that grows in the absence of love, and a closet full of delicate skeletons.

ANGELA is available as part the collection TERMINAL by the same author.

I bought the Kindle for .99 and upgraded to audio for 1.99

Turn of the Screw by Henry James

Blurb:
Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Emmy winner Emma Thompson lends her immense talent and experienced voice to Henry James' Gothic ghost tale, The Turn of the Screw.

When a governess is hired to care for two children at a British country estate, she begins to sense an otherworldly presence around the grounds. Are they really ghosts she's seeing? Or is something far more sinister at work?

Having performed in films based on some of the greatest works in literature - including Sense and Sensibility, Howards End, Much Ado About Nothing, and Henry V - Thompson is no stranger to the classics, and she lends a graceful eloquence to this moody, macabre story. Joined by listener favorite Richard Armitage, who performs the prologue, Thompson reinvigorates this psychological thriller of life, death, evil, and the unknown.

The Kindle was free and I upgraded to audio for 1.99.

I can't guarantee these prices as they can change over time. Reviews for all these books coming soon!

The Patchwork Man by DB Martin Audiobook Review

Clever story that's most definitely worth listening too!

Review:

This story is about Lawrence Juste, a lawyer who is brought a young man Danny who is accused of a crime. His job is to get Danny off. As he digs into the case more and more is revealed starting with his life as a child.

When Lawrence was just a child his parents had too many children and little means to take care of them all. The government stepped in and split up the children. Lawrence went to a home along with other of his siblings and while there learns life the hard way. As the story progresses more of his life and its secrets are revealed.

The story is clever and suspenseful. Not nail biting suspenseful but enough to pique the reader/listener and keep them posted. The plot unravels like a slow death to Lawrence. There are elements in the story many authors wouldn't broach but this author did and with taste.

The narrator Rob Groves does a great job. His voice is easy and steady. I wish he'd changed his pacing more to match the story but overall no complaints. This is an excellent story and written well.

I definitely recommend this book to readers who enjoy mystery, suspense and thrillers!

The Zombie Tale of Beauty and the Beast by S.L. Bull

The Once Upon a Zombietale Anthology is a collection of nine twisted fairy tales from nine different authors. Today I bring you Beauty and the Beast Zombie Style by S.L. Bull.

                                          Excerpt:
Agda watched in horror as Radley was slashed and bitten. One beast clawed at his heart and feasted on it s if he were in ecstasy. Agda pushed aside the shock and began to run. Unbeknownst to Agda, Tabor had taken off at the sight of Radley being eaten by the beasts and left Agda to her own fate like the selfish coward he was.
Agda ran through trees and snow, looking and screaming for help. She had no clue where she was and the only thought she had was to survive.
*****
What Agda also was unaware of was that Prince Clotho was hunting nearby that night. He was hunting the beasts and slaying them, in hopes that if they all died the curse would end. He happened to hear Agda's faint screams and ran to her aid.
Clotho ran toward her as she unknowingly ran toward him. He saw the beast chasing her and, while he had become accustomed to being alone, he knew the beasts must be killed, so he helped her.

Max E. Stone The Bleeding Audiobook

I'm new to the audio world and quickly becoming addicted! Audio adds a dimension to books that can't be found by simply reading them

My Review:

Wow! Loved it! I first read this book as an ebook and loved it. Now on audio I had to read it again. The suspense in this version hangs on each word from the narrator. His inflection is perfect and he varies his voice for each character and accent adding to the depth. If it’s possible to be better, it is. The narration only adds to the story.

The Bleeding is a thriller that entails abuse to the young Derek Warren who in turn becomes his own kind of monster. Clues are revealed slowly through the dialogue and actions of each character. The plot is tricky. It’s the kind of masterful mystery in which the reader needs to heed everything. There are hints dropped everywhere throughout the story. Definitely an edge of the seat read.

For all nail-biter lovers everywhere!
