Resistant by Jennifer Reynolds Audiobook Review

A zombie story with a romantic twist.

Review:

I enjoyed listening to this story. Jennifer Reynolds builds character using the feelings and inner workings of the human mind. She interprets actions with what a character is feeling. Not many authors do that and she does it well.

The story takes place over a number of years. In the beginning people are aware that a zombie apocalypse could be somewhere in the futures horizon. Some people take this more seriously than others. Either way when it happens some precautions have been put into place. It turns out there is a small population who are resistant to the virus. No one really knows how the virus started but they have ideas that somehow the military is involved.

Sahara, the leading lady is an ordinary school teacher who lives a simple solitude life. Which becomes even more lonely after the virus spreads and she is barricaded inside her house alone. It isn't until a group of survivors come beating on her door that she realizes how lonely she's been.

Without giving away more of the story I recommend this book completely. It's entertaining, fun and a bit realistic.

About the Author:

Her writing combines beautiful imagery and thoughtful musings on a life spent searching for a better understanding of the human connection. In 2013, Tracy began writing as a way to reconnect with old friends. A lover of deep conversation, she began to realize there were many others out there looking for a meaningful connection and true bonds to support and inspire one another. When she's not writing, Tracy spends her time planning future goals of living on a lake somewhere cool and writing her first novel.

Stardust and Fire:
Stardust and Fire, Tales of a Hopeful Romantic is Tracy's first book of poetry and free verse. It is a collection of pieces written over the past few years about love, loss, heartache and nature. It is a mixture of beautiful imagery and touching stories of self image and the process of moving through heartache and finding a new love. Buy Links: Amazon|CreateSpace

Moon Kissed Musings:
The title of this book, Moon Kissed Musings, not only invokes tales of trials and tribulations of the heart but brings a unique perspective to the table. According to Tracy Seiden, love takes an arduous journey through rhyme, free, and blank verse. The compositions of these poems provide manifestations of feelings via thoughts, via words onto paper, a conveyance of ordinary words pulling you into a myriad of emotions. This is prevalent in an excerpt of the piece Second Chances. "Her thoughts raced through the back roads of her memories kicking up dust and pebbles threatening to crack the windshield in her mind's eye. Her imagination ran wild, nearly unchecked frolicking through the past, present like some half wild five-year-old in a candy store." Seiden's work portrays a conflict between vulnerability and acceptance placing her within a world of complexities and uncertainties. Vivid pictures are painted throughout to create a literary mosaic. The reader will gain an understanding of an author that's bearing her soul, yearning for a happy ending and fulfillment.

#1

Though he tried to keep track of the turns Gavin made, Philip became lost as they went

down a set of stairs to the right and then took another staircase up and turned left. They seemed to be walking in circles.

Gavin stopped in front of a tapestry whose bright colors had long ago faded. Still visible,

however, was the scene depicting a royal stag. Philip recognized the stag, its proud head held high, its regal stance, and its color...white.
Even he had heard of the white stag. The tales told of kings whose hunts for the animal had destroyed their kingdoms. It was said only the one true king of all Britain would succeed in capturing the white stag. And, if the king released the stag, his kingdom would stand forever, his descendants ruling until none were left. There was talk among the villagers that King Arthur had done just that, and he was the true king of all Britain.
Gavin’s hand on his arm pulled Philip back from his musings. Gavin raised a corner of the tapestry and disappeared behind it. Philip followed, trembling as he touched the cloth of legend.

#2
“Won’t you be missed?” Bryan asked. “You won’t be back before dark.”
Gavin shook his head. “Not tomorrow. The king still has a castle to run, my brothers will be out with the knights, and my mother will be busy with the funeral for Aldred.”
The look of concern in his friends’ faces forced him to go on. “I’ll be all right,” he said,
trying to reassure them. “We swore the Knight’s Oath to save the Wild Man. We have no choice. I have no choice. This is my test to see if I can be a true prince of Pembroke.” He paused and then added softly, “I have to do this.”
“We know,” Philip said.
“Be careful. Don’t get caught tomorrow,” Bryan warned.
They shook hands, and Gavin watched his friends go their separate ways. Once alone, doubt edged into his thoughts. The memories of his nightmares made him tremble. He shook off the fear and then stood and stared at the castle, afraid he might not see it again.
“I wonder if this is how a knight feels on the eve of battle?” he said. “You can do this,
Gavin,” he continued. “You are a Pembroke Prince, and the Wild Man’s life hangs on your courage.”

Zombie Games by Kristen Middleton Audiobook Review

On my way to TNEE in Atlanta I needed entertainment and Zombie Games was perfect!

My Review:

Zombie Games Origins was action and suspense from the start. It was right up my alley. Teen Cassie Wild is pretty much an ordinary kid with martial arts skills until everything goes haywire. Everyone is sick with a flu virus and the authorities are pushing for everyone to take the vaccine. Cassie’s mother won’t have anything to do with it so no vaccine in their family. There’s a side romance ensuing between Cassie and her karate instructor Bryce but that isn’t without problems.

What I enjoyed the most was the action and scene transitions. The story flows well without any hang ups describing far too much that isn’t relevant to the story. It’s written first person so the reader/listener gets Cassie’s account of the story. The plot isn’t simply waking up to zombies it’s centered around Cassie trying to get to her little sister who spent the night at a friends before the zombie breakout and survival.

As a listener I enjoyed the narrator, Belle Avery, is phenomenal. Her voice is clear, concise and she sounds like a teenager. She reads at a steady pace not skipping a beat.

Better than TV!

Running Wild: Zombie Games Book 2

My Review:

Running Wild is book 2 in the Zombie Games series by Kristen Middleton is every bit as good as the first. I listened to book 1 on a five hour one way road trip and book 2 on the way back. They kept my attention and gave me company during the otherwise lonely, boring drive. This book picks up at the same spot the last one left off. With a car full of people they trek across the U.S. in search of Cassie’s sister and mother. Her father being a car salesman gets them a big enough car off the lot and they pack up to flee.

But nothing is that simple. Besides the bombardment of zombies and need for heavy weaponry (her father loves guns) there are plenty of disruptions and plot twists to keep the reader/listener on the edge of their seat. Along with that Cassie and Bryce newly formed romance continues to have disruptions as they find a pretty girl that Cassie knows from school and add her to the growing clan. And a cute soldier saved by Cassie’s mom decides to join them and he’s got a thing for Cassie. Chalk full of action and suspense.

Belle Avery is wonderful! And her voice is perfect for the series. The voice in an audiobook is everything. As a listener I have a growing list of narrators I enjoy. She’s moving quickly to the top.

Tear Tracks Redux by JS Luxor

It was months ago when I read and reviewed the first book in this series. The story is so compelling the second book is required reading. Read my review for the Tear Tracks.

My Review:

Tear Tracks Redux is the continuation of Collin and Savannah’s harrowing story. Because of a huge mix up or lack of communication and trust in their relationship Savannah and Collin become estranged and she winds up addicted to drugs and is sent to Sane Living for her recovery.

I didn’t like Savannah at all in the first book. And I didn’t like her any better in this one. At least not at first. It seemed Collin was working triple time to comfort his very screwed up wife who seriously lacked self-esteem. But I love that about the story. Not all authors can provoke cussing or tears from me while I’m reading. JS Luxor did. At that the same time this story is one that could very well happen.

Through most of the book Savannah is in rehab while Collin is visiting daily. The reader gets an up close look at what it’s like. The various treatments and therapies as well as the struggle to be whole again. It’s far more than just a romance. There’s a lot of meat to this story. My warning is grab the tissues, make sure you have a few undisturbed hours and enjoy the story. You won’t soon forget it.

Interview with N Kuhn

Today I have a special treat! An interview with author N Kuhn

Elle: Tell a little about yourself.

N Kuhn: I’m a single mom. I work from home so I can be with my mini me when she’s not in school. Besides writing, I run a full
advertising and promotional company for authors. I PA for some amazing women like Desiree Holt and Carly Phillips. I enjoy reading as much as writing, although I write romance, I prefer to read horror! I live in a small town and love it!

Elle: What can you tell us about your books?

N Kuhn: I vary. Some are Romantic Suspense. I’ve always loved action movies and try to bring that to my books. Strong men who are loyal, not jerks. As having left a domestic violence marriage, I try to bring the type of men to my books that I would want in my future.

Elle: If a fiction writer, is any part of your book based on events in your life?

N Kuhn: In Bare Christmas, there’s domestic violence in the beginning. The opening scene (minus how it ends) is something I went through with my ex husband. That book means a lot to me and is why I donate proceeds from it to a local DV Shelter in my
area. There are other experiences in my books. Personal things, I try to put something of my self into my characters or plot.

Elle: What was the greatest challenge you faced with publishing your work?

N Kuhn: Finding time to write! With having a 5 year old running around, wanting to play, running my company and still finding time for family, it’s hard for me to sit and write for hours at a time. I do a lot of writing from my phone on the go, while getting my daughter from school, or sitting at her ballet class.

Elle: What are you currently working on?

N Kuhn: Right now, I’m writing Going to the Chapel for Melody Anne’s Billionaire Universe Kindle World that launches later this month. I’ll also be writing a book for June, for Ruth Cardello’s Lone Star Burn Kindle World.

Elle: Do you have an interesting writing quirk?

N Kuhn: Not really. I’ve written books while my toddler watched Mickey Mouse Club House. I’ve written books while sitting at Starbucks. There’s not anything I really do every time I write or that I need.

Elle: Do you have a favorite author or book?

N Kuhn: Nelson Demille. I love his mix of conspiracy, military and sarcastic asshole characters! I fell in love with him when I watched The General’s Daughter with John Travolta. And then went to read everything he’s ever written.

Elle: Describe yourself in three words.

N Kuhn: Mommy want coffee

Raven Williams Elf-Witch Audio Book Review

It wasn't long ago I listened to the first book in the series Elven-Jumper.When I learned the next book in the series was available in audio I took the first opportunity I was given to get the book.

Read my Elven-Jumper review

My Review:

Sometimes I do a lot of traveling and audio books keep me company. The Realm Jumper Chronicles I got into with book 1 in audio. I’m glad that Richard Coombs is still narrating. He has the ability to vary his voice per character and individualize them. That makes them even more real and I see the story unfold.

As for the story, a few twists and a creative fantasy world that could rival Harry Potter or one of my favorites the Chronicles of Narnia. Raven Williams has developed an entire world with elves, dragons and witches. The Realm Jumpers go from Paer-Jhysael to Earth through portals. In this segment they are looking for the elf-witch a young lady who is spoken about in prophecy to be extremely powerful and on the side of the good elves. Like a true fantasy story there is good and there are bad elves with evil intentions.

For the fantasy crazed reader this is a must read series.

Like the first book in the series I also bought the Kindle copy and advise doing so because their is an Appendix with important reference information.

The Reflections of Queen Snow White by David Meredith Book Review

My review says it all! A very different kind of story.

My Review:
The Reflections of Queen Snow White is a different kind of story. “Different” is what caught my eye. We’ve all seen the Disney version of fairy tales and know the princesses all too well but what is happily ever after? Does anyone ever wonder what it is? Did the princesses really live a glorified happy life after the charming prince rode in on his white steed and swept her off her feet?

In my opinion this is the anti-fairy tale. The story opens with a sorrowful, mourning Snow White. It is a year since her Prince Charming has passed. They have a daughter Raven whom Snow White can’t even look at because of the resemblance she bares to her father. Broken inside she wanders to her evil step mother’s quarters, now old, dusty with critters taking residence. She stumbles upon the magic mirror and takes the reader on a journey through her “happily ever after”.

David Meredith added dimension and character to a now much older Snow White. We don’t see the young girl anymore instead we see a middle aged distraught woman whom longs to be in the arms of her Prince Charming once again. The plot in this novella is unique. For me that’s a huge plus. I don’t want to read the same thing over and over just a different author. An excellent debut novel.

Let There Be Dragons by Kim Cormack Book Review

I think this one as better than the last!

Before I give you my full review I encourage you to read my others for all the books in this series.
Sweet Sleep Book 1
Enlightenment Book 2
Wild Thing - Spinoff, can be read alone

My Review:
Let There Be Dragons is the third installment of The Children of the Ankh series. I have read each book, including Wild Thing. And in Kim Cormack style this books is just as exciting!

Kayn made it through testing and now she’s figuring out her new abilities and what it is to be a dragon. Lucky for her she has Lexy as a mentor? Yup! None other than Lexy to show her the ropes and help her control her dragon. Kayn’s ability besides the need to squash creeps is a mystery to the group. They’ve never had anyone with her ability in the group and are perplexed at how she can use it. No guidance there. She learns as she goes.

Each character grows and develops more with every book. And the story in non stop action and intrigue. I laughed hysterically at parts like Kayn’s new found liking for hot sauce on everything she eats and found myself on the edge of my seat during other parts that I won’t mention. I never give a spoiler.

This series never disappoints.
