Interview
Elle: Tell us a little about you as a person.

Robyn: I live a low-key, drama-free life in the Midwest with my high school sweetheart and our two moody teenagers.  I’m fortunate to be able to telecommute as an accountant.  That might
sound lonely, but I am never alone, as our rescue mutt is always close by begging for a treat, or a walk!

Elle: So, what have you written?

Robyn: I enjoy writing under the broad umbrella of romantic fiction.  I’ve written a New Adult romantic suspense series called the Keeper Series that includes three books.  My fourth book, Chain of Title, is a Mature Adult romantic suspense story with thriller elements.  And I’m currently working on my fifth book, HellKat.  I’m hoping to publish it the first quarter of 2015.

Elle: What genre are your books?

Robyn: I have a difficult time classifying my books.  So, let’s call them romantic women’s fiction with humor and varying degrees and types of suspense and thriller elements.  I like my books to reflect life—it’s a mixed bag!

Elle: What draws you to this genre?

Robyn: Romance, love, sex, it’s how we all got here, and it makes life worth living.  There are many other aspects to life, of course, but love is the common, recurring, undeniable thread in human existence, whether it’s in literature, poems, movies, painting, sculptures, or music.  It surrounds us constantly.

Elle: Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?

Robyn: My current work in process, HellKat, centers on Kat James.  She comes from a wealthy New York family and has defied them at every turn since she was a child.  Whether it’s the men she’s dated, the fact that she started her own business instead of taking her place in the family business, or rejecting her trust fund, she’s always been at odds with them—some of them more than others.  She’s never quite fit in.  Kat is a smart, successful, incredibly driven woman who has forgotten how to have fun, or how to make room for anyone else in her life.  She meets someone that reminds her of that at a time when, unknown to her, her world is about to be upended by a tragic family secret.

Elle: If this book is part of a series, tell us a little about it?

Robyn: I anticipate HellKat will be a standalone.  My prior work, Chain of Title, was supposed to be a standalone, as well.  However, I’ve had enough readers request a sequel that I am now seriously considering it.

Elle: Where do your ideas come from?

Robyn: For me it usually starts with scenes in my head, or I ‘hear’ dialogue.  Much like a dream, I’ve no doubt these scenes and dialogue originate with something I’ve witnessed—past or present, read, heard, or even dreamed!

Elle: What is the hardest thing about writing?

Robyn: Finding enough time to write is the biggest challenge for me.  Then there are those days when I have a block of time where I could make great headway, but the characters are silent.  I think that’s even more frustrating!

Elle: Besides writing what are your favorite things to do?

Robyn: I love to read—always have!  I also enjoying my time playing on the internet.  I’m not a person who enjoys games, but I love to look up facts, check out science sites, anything that seems interesting at the moment.  I also enjoy biking with my husband, watching movies with my daughter, and arguing politics with my son!

Elle: Do you have a favorite movie and/or book?

Robyn: The Constant Gardner by John le CarrĂ© is one of my all-time favorite books, and movie.  I watched the movie years ago but just recently read the book.  His writing evoked a visceral level of imagery, emotion, and personal connection that I seldom find in a book or movie.  I hope to someday have the ability to do the same, if only fractionally.

HellKat Blurb:

Kat James works hard.  She used to play hard, too.  She doesn’t believe a woman can have it all, not without giving up her independence and identity, lose herself to a man and the pressures of family and society.  So, she made the choice long ago to grow her business and map out a future for herself.  If there is such a thing as ‘having it all’, then it’s going to be on Kat’s terms, no one else’s.

If there’s a man out there who can deal with that, she hasn’t met him yet…

Enter Tucker Williams.   A man who knows all too well about the twists and turns of life, the ups and downs no one sees coming, the bad things we pretend only happen to other people.  He already knows control is illusory.  So, he’s learned to meet whatever happens head on, confront it without flinching.  Because he knows that’s his only chance of having control over anything, no matter how brief.

When his eyes set on Kat James, he glimpses a woman who believes she’s in control.  A woman who feels like a force of nature.  A woman who should be wild and free.

A woman who has forgotten how to be either…

When family secrets surface, Kat will battle to regain her control and confront the people who’ve been yanking her chain all along.  But in the end, she and Tucker will be battling a union of madness they could not have seen coming.

Family is supposed to watch your back, but sometimes they stab you in it instead.
